NPR has compiled a collection of photos taken during the two weeks following the October 7th massacre. Please be warned that while the photos are informational and meaningful, they do depict a lot of violence and destruction. Heed your boundaries; it is important to be an observer during this time but it’s not expected for you to purposefully subject yourself to the heavy onslaught of human suffering.
Consider donating to the Palestine Red Crescent Society yourself. They can always use the aid, especially now.
Do more research on your own. I personally like to ‘link surf,’ starting on Wikipedia and combing through their sources for more founded information. Utilize your knowledge from school of what constitutes a a reputable source, remember to be critical of what you read and watch, and fact check, especially if you’re skeptical of the source material.
Follow Palestinian creators. There are several businesses still operating out of Palestine right now, and they can use your help now more than ever. Palestinian people in the disapora need your support too – seek out a restaurant or store near you that offers Palestinian goods.
Be mindful of bias. While there is some unbiased media reporting on Israel right now, the vast majority of it is parroting the words of Netanyahu, not the words of civilians. If someone has Zionist beliefs, proceed with extreme caution.
Remember what you may have learned during previous times of conflict – the Black Lives Matter movement, the fight for marriage equality in the States, the battle to repeal Roe v Wade. All our battles are different, but ultimately they are all for human rights.
Take care of yourself. You cannot care 100% all of the time. You cannot speak well or be a good ally if you give yourself emotional burnout from constantly submersing yourself in human suffering.
